Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Review

Nintendo knew that Mario Kart 8  was necessary to port onto the Switch as the original was launched back in May 2014 on the Wii U and was very popular. In our opinion, we believe the re-release on the Nintendo Switch was a great move on their part. The one facet of the port is the renaming of the game slightly, Nintendo decided to change the name to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe,  with this renaming came some extra racers, modes, and all the DLC that was released for the original game.

Upgraded class, redefined tracks

The original Mario Kart 8 on Wii U has most of the content that can be found on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with over 10 new characters and karts and you’ll also gain 16 brand new tracks, previously was only on DLC.  What you receive are 48 tracks that will give you plenty of hours of entertainment.  A total of 24 tracks is upgraded tracks from previous Mario Kart games.  As with the original, there are various classes and Nintendo has added an even faster and craze filled 200cc class.  The game also now features a reworked and polished Battle mode which Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U forced you to play on normal tracks instead of the arenas everybody wanted to play, well now there are eight arenas and five are brand new levels while the other arenas are based on previous 3DS, GameCube and SNES.

Fun for your friends and family, Switch style

We knew the experience on the Switch would be quite different and what we found was that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is amazing in Multiplayer mode. You can play with up to four friends in split-screen on your TV,  you can LAN up to 12 players or you can take it online with up to 12 players. According to Nintendo, there will be various updates throughout the year including a voice update which will allow you to try your best Mario impression to an unsuspecting online player.

Players can now change their character and vehicle after each race without having to completely leave your multiplayer lobby. When choosing the new character and vehicle there can be a delay but the delay is worth it, as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe can be fast paced a toilet or food break is always necessary 🙂

Nintendo is bringing the old and the new together

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the definitive Mario Kart experience with its beautiful tracks, characterisations and the Nintendo Switch’s ability to switch modes makes this pair a must have, a must have for all Nintendo Switch and all Mario fans out there.
