REVIEW NOTE: SOME SPOILERS AHEAD
Fans have had to wait almost 6 years to get the next iteration of the post-apocalyptic journey of Metro. Back in 2013 Metro: Last Light launched to be a great success for the 4A Games development studio and in Metro Exodus being the sequel to Last Light we can only expect improvements. The devastation of post-apocalyptic Moscow in the grips of nuclear winter is even more breathtaking. Metro Exodus stands out as best in the series in terms of its atmosphere, much-improved gameplay and absolutely gorgeous visuals, from the snow particles to the water glistening in the distance, this is seen whether you are playing on PC, PS4 or Xbox One the graphical power of the game is amazing.
Finding Life outside the Metro
The universe created by Russian author, Dmitry Glukhovsky does not seem too far fetched when you think of the current political climate around the world regarding Nuclear War, however I am not going to get into politics, the story of Metro Exodus is based on a third world war in 2013 following international conflict whose disastrous outcome led to nuclear bombardment which involved major countries across the world. In Russia however, the survivors have concentrated mainly in Moscow thanks to the shelter offered by the underground metro tunnels, and in some cities in the suburbs. Nuclear atoms are well known to disrupt genetics and some of the new species of animals and humanoids in Metro Exodus are exactly what you would expect from years of nuclear devastation. The main protagonist Artyom continues to try and find life outside the Metro, does he succeed in his venture? Let’s just say the journey is a rough and violent one 😐
Post-apocalypse never looked this good!
Breathtakingly Beautiful, and not because I took off my mask 🙁
Metro Exodus has some of the best graphics compositions available in a shooter, developers 4A Games have nailed the overall lighting and with that, we commend them for almost experiencing no technical or graphical glitches in our 12 hours of play. With our review PC, we were able to play it in 1080p at 30 FPS while on Ultra. The graphical settings are insane, you can adjust particles, special effects and change the realistic ambient lighting, complete with volumetric mists, beams of light projected into the dust or changing the hair works option to be more realistic when you come face to face with one of those creatures. One issue I have is the character animations and expressions they are a little average when you take the whole picture in from the gameplay, atmosphere and mechanics it technically is sound just 4A Games could have worked on the animations for little longer.
I found the backpack to be the best part of my Metro Exodus experience, it also brings with it the ability to swap out weapon parts without returning to the train. When night fell I was able to quickly swap the eyepiece on my sniper rifle for a night vision scope, for example. Or, if I found myself up against a more mobile set of enemies, it was always handy to tweak the components of my shotgun in order to increase its stability.

Weapon modifications are smooth, quick firing without the need for any long extended tutorial, crafting is fun however you will need to find the necessary workbenches in order to craft your ammunition, clean the weapons or improve you’re worn out equipment. The quick modifying of your weapons is a fun feature within the game, I have spent around 2 hours just upgrading or re-scoping our weapons from the sights to improving the barrels durability. Metro Exodus truly emphasizes convenience and at any time without stopping play you can get modify your gun to be more versatile.
Stay indoors and play this!
